Some diesel injector harnesses operate inside or beneath the valve cover.
That environment exposes electrical connections to heat, vibration and engine oil.
As a result, a circuit can test correctly when cold and become unstable after heat soak.
Temperature Changes the Electrical Environment
Possible heat-sensitive conditions include:
- weak terminal tension;
- damaged conductors;
- insulation deterioration;
- marginal connector fit;
- changing resistance.
Build a Cold-to-Hot Comparison
Record engine behavior:
Cold start → Warm-up → Full operating temperature → Heat soak
Then compare:
- cylinder contribution;
- injector circuit data;
- harness continuity;
- connector condition.
Why a Cold Resistance Test Can Pass
The harness may make good contact while cool and stationary.
That measurement does not prove contact remains stable:
- at high temperature;
- under vibration;
- while carrying injector current.
Inspect the Harness Before Replacing the Injector
